FREE STUDIO - Part 1

Description

This is the transcription and translation of the MBS FREE STUDIO talk show that was streamed live on YouTube on 17th December. It seems that the video was not kept on the site after the stream. A cut-and-edited version is available here for a limited period, until 19th January. This video seems to be regionally locked to Japan only.

Notes

I don’t think I necessarily caught the live stream right from the start, but I’ll just transcribe what I have.

There are quite a lot of parts where I couldn’t catch the words, especially when they talked over each other. Generally this has a ‘（？）’ mark in the Japanese text, and sometimes I indicate with commentary.

I’ve reduced the aidzuchi, or obligatory back-and-forth interjections just a little, especially for flow of answering questions, but even then I’ve kept a lot.

This time I’ve left some footnotes. Generally only for culturally-related context.

The host Kiyo-san makes a lot of jokes and is very responsive. Getting angry and making fun of the guests are all done in jest. I’ve added some laughing marks to make it clearer, but they actually laugh a lot more. Basically Kacchan is as good as on nitrous oxide.

I’m thinking of splitting this talk show into three parts, but this first one has been a lot of work, so I’ll probably think of ways to scrimp on the effort.

What? What kind of rehearsal would that be? When you’re doing it with everyone?

ライブハウス、ちっちゃいライブハウスを借りて、

We rented a small live house¹,

そこでお教導出しながら、自分達で音確認して流れてます。

And gave pointers while checking our own sound.

S:

あ、じゃ、もう半分もう本番さながらみたいな、ライブハウスですけど。

ま、そこにいれるのは、関係者のみ。

て言うかそこのスタジオ、もう本当に街のスタジオなんで、

どうですか。今日は一つちょっとトーク番組なんでございますけども、

トーク番組はいかがですか。あまりすごく出てるイメージないですよね。

how do you find talk shows? I have the impression that you don’t often appear on them.

T:

そうですね。頑張ります。

That’s right. We’ll do our best.

S:

あの、デビューして、ま、15年前なんですけど、そのもっと前に、

when we debuted, it was 15 years ago, but even before that,

バンド組んでた時に、自分の可能性は、もう、無限にあるって事を、

when I formed a band, to show that my possibilities are limitless,

何か自分の名前に入れたいと思って、インディーズの頃にやったんですよね。

I wanted to put this in my name. I did this when we were still indie, though.

S:

T:

その名残で、そのまま。

That’s a relic of the past, just the way it was.

S:

あの、なんでしたっけ？ちょっと知ってんでしたが、極。極が付く。

T:

スゲー！何で知ってるですか。いやいや、びっくりしました。

知ってますよ！それはもう。でも全部上げなかったけど。

I use the kanji of my name, which is a precious gift from my parents.

K:

付けるかは迷ったんですけどね。付ける余地なかったですね。

I did ponder adding something, actually. But there wasn’t room for one.

S:

K:

で、この番組全然スタッフと、あの、事前のあれが無いんですけど、ほとんど。

Since this is the most erratic question in the show. (This one’s hard to translate. They mean it would solicit the most unpredictable responses.)

K:

足の小指は大体ちっちゃいでしょう。

S：

大体そうですよね。

大っきの見た事ないですけどね。

I’ve never actually seen a big one though.

On Lyric-Writing

S:

ま、じゃ、ちょっと音楽的なところは行こうかな。

Regarding lyrics, right? This.
